Originally, Five-Star Defensive Back DJ Pickett planned to announce his commitment on October 5th however, he'll now be announcing his commitment on July 17th. Pickett is one of the best players in this recruiting class ranked by On3 as the fourth best player in the class and the 2nd ranked cornerback.

This is massive for the Tigers in a few ways rather than Pickett's initial plan to commit in October. For starters, Pickett planned to attend a Miami Hurricanes game early on this season before making his decision as he wanted to see how the team started the year. The Hurricanes are the in-state school for DJ Pickett while his cousin plays for Miami.

The Georgia Bulldogs also remain in the race for Pickett as they seemingly are with every five star recruit while the Oregon Ducks are emerging as of late. The Oregon Ducks are on a massive hit streak on the recruiting trail with the Nation's fifth-best recruiting class. Also working in Pickett's favor could be Dakorien Moore who plans to announce his commitment at some point during July 4th.

If LSU is going to win out it'll be because of DJ Pickett's relationship with LSU's defensive backs coach Corey Raymond. LSU wasn't even in the running for Pickett prior to Brian Kelly hiring Raymond but, now they're a serious contender.

LSU needs a defensive star like DJ Pickett in this recruiting class

Offensively, at this point, the committed talent can recruit for itself as star players like Bryce Underwood and Harlem Berry attract other top talent to a recruiting class. On the defensive side, this class needs serious help as the class lacks a true star. Landing a player like Pickett would do wonders for this recruiting class that only has three players committed on the defensive side of the football.
