Heading into the season, the two biggest questions around the LSU Football team were with the defensive line and quarterback. As LSU had to replace Jayden Daniels, there was an expectation that the Tigers offense would take a step back. LSU struggled at defensive end last season and had to replace three defensive tackles who went into the NFL.

Despite these two positions being the biggest question entering the season, they've become arguably LSU's two biggest strengths. This is as a result of the incredible play from Garrett Nussmeier and Bradyn Swinson.

Through four games, Garrett Nussmeier has 113 completions which is the most in LSU history. Nussmeier leads all SEC Quarterbacks with 113 completions and 13 touchdown passes while ranking behind only Jaxson Dart in yards but, the two are the only quarterbacks in the Conference over 1,000 yards passing.

This weekend, Nussmeier wnet 32 for 44 passing (72.7%) for 352 yards and three touchdowns in the win over UCLA. The performance by Nussmeier was impressive enough to earn him the SEC Offensive Player of the Week Award.

As things currently stand the Tigers have recorded 12 sacks in four games which is a much higher pace than the Tigers had in 2023. This is as a result of the development of Sai'Vion Jones and Bradyn Swinson under Kevin Peoples. Swinson has now turned in back to back incredible games following up his three sack game against South Carolina with a two sack game against UCLA while forcing another fumble. On the season, Swinson now has five sacks and a pair of forced fumbles and he's now won back to back defensive lineman of the week Awards.

Bradyn Swinson and Garrett Nussmeier continue to raise their draft stock

Entering the season, all of the draft buzz was around Will Campbell, Emery Jones Jr, Mason Taylor, and Harold Perkins as players who'd likely end up being selected in the first round. Given how Garrett Nussmeier has played to start the season, if he can finish the year on a similar pace he'll easily hear his name called as a first round pick. The same can be said for Bradyn Swinson who's currently fourth in the country in sacks trailing by just half of a sack. Say what you want about Brian Kelly but, this years NFL Draft is shaking up to be a parade of LSU Tigers which will pay massive dividends on the recruiting trail.
