The MLB Draft has been dominated by the LSU Baseball team whether its for player being selected or with Jay Johnson getting key pieces to attend LSU. The Tigers shocked the MLB Draft world getting projected first round pick William Schmidt and projected day two pick Cade Arrambide to pull out of the draft to attend LSU. The Tigers have also had Tommy White, Luke Holman, and Gage Jump selected on day one of the MLB Draft.

The first LSU Tiger to come off the board on Day Two is starting pitcher Thatcher Hurd as he's selected 89th Overall by the New York Yankees. Earlier this offseason, Thatcher Hurd entered the transfer portal so LSU likely won't get the right hander back even if he doesn't sign with the Yankees.

While Hurd struggled in 2024, he'll go down as an all time hero for the LSU Baseball program. Hurd pitched the Championship sealing game in 2023 allowing just two runs on two hits across six innings of work helping LSU in winning it's seventh Natonal Championship.

Hurd heads to New York which is a perfect place for any up and coming pitcher hoping to make the Major Leagues. There will be a fellow former UCLA Bruin on the Yankees in Pitcher Gerrit Cole who can be a great mentor for Hurd. The Yankees also have one of the best pitching coaches in Baseball in Matt Blake who can help Hurd in his development.

All eyes are on Jared Jones and Griffin Herring for LSU Baseball

The LSU Baseball team has seen several of its key pieces announce they'll be in Baton Rouge for the 2025 College Baseball season but, Jay Johnson can still reel in two massive pieces. Jared Jones returning to LSU would give the Tigers a top of the lineup power threat to really bolster this lineup. Griffin Herring returning would likely mean that Jay Johnson will allow him the chance to start which could see Herring's game rise to another level.
