LSU baseball: What’s different about the Tigers as they begin the 2024 season
LSU baseball begins its College World Series title defense against the Virginia Military Institute this afternoon. Here’s what fans must know about the squad before the first pitch.

The 2024 opening series in Baton Rouge
LSU baseball begins the season with a four-game series at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge. VMI and Central Arkansas are in town with Johnson’s Tigers for a round-robin. The four-day slate is below.
- Friday, February 16 at 2 p.m. CT vs. VMI
- Saturday, February 17 at 1 p.m. CT vs. Central Arkansas
- Sunday, February 18 at 1 p.m. CT vs. VMI
- Monday, February 19 at 2 p.m. CT vs. Central Arkansas
Hurd will take the ball this afternoon and lead LSU’s efforts to defend their College World Series title. Holman is slated to start on Saturday, and Johnson has yet to announce his pitchers for the rest of President’s Day weekend.

LSU baseball is ranked No. 4 in the preseason top 25 rankings. Only Wake Forest, Florida, and Arkansas are listed above the Tigers to begin college baseball’s opening weekend.
