The LSU Tigers are the eighth seed in the SEC Tournament this year and after receiving a first-round bye will take on the the nine-seed Mississippi State Bulldogs. Right now LSU is not projected to make the NCAA Tournament.

Of course, LSU is not completely out of it because they could still get to automatic bid if they win the SEC Tournament. However, if they win this game against Mississippi State, they will have a battle against the one-seed Tennessee, who the Tigers lost to 68-88 earlier in the season.

Now, in my opinion, the Tigers have a case to make March Madness. They went .500 in conference play by going 9-9 and they have wins over three ranked opponents this season. Their best win against a ranked opponent was a 64-63 thriller against No. 11 South Carolina.

The Tigers will face Mississippi State in the second round of the SEC Tournament and this will be the second time these teams will face off this season. The Bulldogs won the first matchup 67-87 in Maravich Center, a tough loss later in the season for LSU.

However, looking at the history between these two teams, the Tigers hold the all-time series record over the Bulldogs. LSU is 114-104 against Mississippi State. These teams are 5-5 against each other in their last 10 matchups with Mississippi State taking the last two games.

Mississippi State has also won the last five matchups between these teams in the SEC Tournament. LSU will get the chance to snap that streak today.

Even though LSU is not projected to make it into the NCAA Tournament without an SEC Tournament title, if the tigers could pull off an upset or two, maybe they could see their name on a couple of lists. It will be tough and LSU needs a "win or go home" mentality, but it is not impossible. This is called March Madness for a reason after all.
