The story of the opening weekend was clearly the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets upset over the tenth ranked Florida State Seminoles. The game kicked off the College Football season in spectacular fashion and Georgia Tech had a clear plan of attack. Florida State was tabbed as having one of the Nation's best defensive lines which was demolished by Georgia Tech.

The Yellow Jackets ran the football 36 times while they only passed the ball 11 times. On the ground, Georgia Tech picked up 190 yards averaging 5.3 yards per carry while scoring three touchdowns. After the game, Head Coach Brent Key shared what his clear plan of attack was in the opening game.

This message should resonate with Brian Kelly, Joe Sloan, and the LSU Football team heading into the season opener.

Georgia Tech has a great offensive line but, LSU has far and away a superior group up front and possibly the Nation's best offensive line. Jamal Haynes is a solid running back but, we all expect that Kaleb Jackson will be one of the top backs in the country this season. Last season, Kaleb Jackson averaged 5.3 yards per carry, Josh Williams averaged 5.2, and John Emery Jr also averaged 5.3 yards per carry.

The Tigers aren't exactly going up against a group as talented as Florida State's defensive front either. This is a USC Football team that got gashed by opponents in 2023 in both the passing and rushing attacks. The Trojans allowed 186.5 rushing yards per game in 2023 which ranked 117th in the country.

The Trojans do import a new defensive staff and a few transfers they hope will change the dynamics of the defense but, the message should remain the same. USC will be improved up front but, they still lack talented depth on the defensive line. The strength of this offensive line is in the rushing attack wher ethey have five maulers before accounting for the impact the tight ends make in the rushing game. Leaning on this USC defensive line early on in this game will prove impactful when the fourth quarter rolls around.

Why a heavy rush attack is the best approach for LSU in Week One

As the LSU football team enters the season, we're confident in Garrett Nussmeier but, he may need some time to get a full grasp of starting for the team. When you have a clear strength you utilize it and the Tigers have one with their offensive line. A heavy rushing attack will also open up the passing attack for LSU where Nussmeier may get favorable one on one matchups in play action attempts. If you asked the Trojans what their biggest fear is in this matchup they'd say being leaned on for four quarters which is exactly what LSU should do.
