The LSU Football team entered the day with a chance to add yet another in-state star as Phillip Wright teased an announcement. The LSU Tigers have finally gotten the Destrehan star on board as Wright has committed to LSU.

On3’s Industry Recruiting Rankings have Phillip Wright ranked as the 422nd ranked player in the class, the 69th ranked wide receiver, and the 12th ranked player In Louisiana.

In Phillip Wright, LSU is getting a serious speed threat who could be a key deep threat for LSU down the line. Wright really got onto LSU football’s radar this spring when they saw the jaw dropping times he ran on the track.

The LSU Tigers now have three wide receivers committed as Wright joins fellow Louisiana Native TaRon Francis and top-100 recruit Derek Meadows. LSU may not be done at the wide receiver position as a finalist for five-star Jaime Ffrench while several other receiving targets remain on flip watch.

The recruitment of Phillip Wright is hopefully finally over as he’s committed to LSU. It always felt like a when rather than an if with Wright getting on board but, LSU showed interest too late the first time around. Wright has a friend on board in Destrehan teammate Jhase Thomas and the duo could be the next great stars for LSU in the Destrehan pipeline.

Scholarship additions made this more likely

When the NCAA eliminated walk ons and added scholarships it became apparent that schools would begin pushing for in-state recruits they weren’t able to target. Since the addition of these scholarships LSU has made a serious push for three star instate talent that they can develop for the future.
