LSU Football gets John Emery back providing a boost to the Running Back Room
When the Spring Transfer portal opened, one of the first players from LSU to depart was running back John Emery. The former Five-Star recruit explored his options and it seemed that he was heading west to UCLA however, Emery will return to the LSU Tigers.
Through five seasons in Baton Rouge, Emery has 1,062 career rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns. Emery has all the talent you could want but thus far injuries have kept him from emerging as a star.
The return of Emery however gives LSU some much needed depth in the running back room. The Tigers were set to have just theee running backs on the roster with only one returning with a ton of experience. It appeared that the Tigers were going to be shorthanded after losing Emery while Trey Holly deals with his legal issues but, now the group has a seasoned veteran behind the younger group.
Brining back John Emery is also better for the teams recruiting pitch instead of bringing in a transfer with more than one season of eligibility. The Tigers can still promise young backs like Harlem Berry and JT Lindsey the chance of playing time from year one.
Not a massive move but a needed move
Heading into the season with just three scholarship running backs was doable but, it also didn’t feel like the best situation incase or injuries. The Tigers now have another back to carry some of the load of the rushing game as LSU is tasked with replacing the rushing production of Jayden Daniels. It’s better to be safe than sorry and Brian Kelly was able to do so by bringing back a player from the National Championship Team.
