LSU Football lands its first 2026 commitment from in-state defensive tackle
This weekend marks the final recruiting weekend for atleast a month as the dead period starts on June 25th running through July 25th meaning coaches can't contact any recruits. This weekend is always a massive weekend as LSU hosts it's Friday Night Lights Camp which is where we saw Bryce Underwood and Harlem Berry get connected last season.
The pair was back on campus this weekend to help the staff in it's recruiting efforts and it may have paid off as LSU landed it's first 2026 commitment. Bo Davis and LSU Football have gotten in-state defensive tackle Richard Anderson to commit to LSU keeping him home. The Edna Karr stand-out will join teammate TaRon Francis if both players end up signing with the LSU Tigers. Anderson is ranked by On3 as a Four-Star recruit as the ninth ranked defensive tackle in the class.
Picking up one of the top in-state players early on is massive as Louisiana may have the best talent pool of any state in the 2026 recruiting cycle. The Tigers may also get some help now in landing top-50 recruit Safety Aiden Hall who is Anderson's teammate at Edna Karr.
Building the team with in-state players is the best approach
Besides Louisiana consistently producing some of the best talent in the Nation, there are also a few reasons it makes the most sense to build around players staying at home. The emergence of NIL has made recruiting about investing but, when recruiting kids who grew up fans of LSU that isn't always the case as players have dreamed about wearing the Purple and Gold. The other massive aspect is the transfer portal but, in-state players are less likely to transfer away from home making it easily the best base to recruit from.
