LSU Football makes positional change after injury to John Emery Jr
This weekend, John Emery Jr was far and away LSU's best running back rushing for 61 yards on ten carries adding another ten yards on a reception. It may have been the most impressive Emery has looked in a Tigers uniform showing a rare blend of speed and power. The Tigers unfortunately lost John Emery Jr to a torn ACL in practice this week which will cause him to miss the rest of the season.
The LSU Football team got John Emery Jr back after he entered the transfer portal which was huge as it gave LSU a fourth scholarship running back. As Trey Holly still waits for his legal situation to be sorted out so he can return to the LSU football team, the Tigers were down to just three running backs Kaleb Jackson, Josh Williams, and Caden Durham.
Given that LSU had just one truly experienced back in Williams, one they're confident in with Kaleb Jackson, and a true freshman in Durham it seemed that LSU would need to move someone to running back.
The newest running back for the LSU Football team is cornerback Ju'Juan Johnson who signed with LSU in December. Johnson isn't just an athletic player making the switch as he was a dynamic player at Lafayette Christian Academy. Johnson set state records with 14,451 yards and 171 touchdowns as a dual threat quarterback.
Brian Kelly raved about Johnson on signing day for his ability to play anywhere.
Johnson and Caden Durham will be must watch this weekend
Now that Johnson is at running back, the Freshman will certainly get some reps against Nicholls State to help in his adjustment. We'll likely see heavy usage for Durham as he looks to gain his first carries at the College Level. We likely won't see Johnson at running back past this season as LSU has two commitments at running back in Harlem Berry and JT Lindsey but, it'll be awesome to see Johnson's ability in play.
