LSU Football News: Upcoming Commitments, Number Changes, and More
We're finally officially in our first game week of the 2024 LSU Football season. The LSU Football team will fly out to Las Vegas where they'll take on the USC Trojans in a College Football Edition of Sunday Night Football. There will be a ton of updates this week especially as we await an official depth chart but, here are a few storylines to follow.
Two commitments to watch this week
This week, LSU will look to add two more commitments to this recruiting class on Friday. The headliner is Jaime Ffrench the Nation's third ranked receiver and the 18th ranked recruit overall. The Tigers have pushed for Ffrench for a long time and he'll finally come off the board this week. Ffrench will be picking between LSU, Texas, Tennessee, and Miami but, this truly feels like a two team race.
This feels like a race between Texas and LSU while in-state Miami could always pull off a surprise. Right now, Ffrench is seemingly headed to Texas but, LSU would still be able to push for flips as Texas is slated to hold commitments from Ffrench, Kaliq Lockett, and athlete Michael Terry as the first two considered LSU.
The other recruit that LSU will look to land on Friday is defensive tackle Walter Mathis Jr. On3's Industry rankings have Mathis is the 456th best player in the class and the 42nd ranked defensive tackle. The Tigers are seemingly the runaway favorite for Mathis and Bo Davis has done an incredible job. This will be LSU's fourth commitment at defensive tackle and it's another player who'll fly up the rankings with his Senior film.
Sage Ryan making uniform change
This season it seemed like Greg Penn III would wear the number three to honor Greg Brooks Jr as he continues his fight. When Penn was given the 18, it was sort of disappointing that we wouldn't have anyone honoring Greg. Sage Ryan has changed his number and will now wear number 3 to honor his teammate he roamed the secondary with. Entering the season, Ryan is slated to start at cornerback alongside Ashton Stamps.
