LSU Football Players at every position who will demolish their career highs in 2024
Harold Perkins - Linebacker
One of the Weeks brothers would have been an easier prediction to make but, we're buying in on Harold Perkins in Blake Baker's defense. In 2023, Perkins saw a slight uptick in total tackles with 74, solo tackles with 43, but, his best sack total is still his freshman mark of 7.5. The success of players like Omar Speights this preseason has shown that Matt House clearly had some issues deploying linebackers.
There's a reason that Harold Perkins was given the honor of wearing the 7, he's the best defensive playmaker in the country. Blake Baker will allow Perkins to rush the passer more often which should help him top his career high in sacks while a second year at linebacker should lead to more tackles in 2024.
Ashton Stamps - Cornerback
It won't be hard for Ashton Stamps to beat his career bests as he racked up two pass defenses and 24 tackles as a true freshman. This summer, Stamps has emerged as the LSU Football team's top cornerback and could be one of the keys to LSU's defensive success. Kyren Lacy has been a great sparring partner but, we'll get a true feel for Stamps' development week one against USC.
Jardin Gilbert - Safety
One of the pieces that should help the resurgence of LSU's secondary is safety Jardin Gilbert who transfers in from Texas A&M. Gilbert missed most of the 2023 season with a shoulder injury which hurt the Aggies as Gilbert entered the season on the All-SEC team after he recorded 61 tackles, four pass defenses, and two interceptions in 2022.
If Gilbert can return to his pre-injury form, the LSU Defense will be much improved in the secondary. Gilbert impressed the entire spring and continues to impress this fall as he and Jordan Allen build chemistry.
