LSU Football will have a rotation in the secondary this weekend
This past weekend one of the pieces of what happened late in the game determined there would be a shakeup in the Secondary against Nicholls. Jardin Gilbert got ejected on USC's go ahead touchdown drive for targeting, as a result he'll miss the first half of Saturday Night's game due to the suspension rules. On top of that Gilbert is dealing with a minor injury which means we may not see him this weekend.
Brian Kelly spoke on this and gave us an idea of what to expect on the position saying the following:
"I think at the safety position, we're looking at Kylin, Dashawn Spears to definitely get a good amount of work. Jardin's nursing a bit of a deep thigh contusion, can't play the first half. Jordan's (Allen) got a little bit of a turf toe as well. He's cleared to play and he practiced yesterday. Right now a three man rotation at safety. You can expect to see a lot of work from those younger players."

During the spring and the summer, you can argue that the players with the two best camps were Dashawn Spears and Kylin Jackson. Jackson spent a ton of time at the star position but, the two may be too talented to keep off the field at this point.
On Sunday night the two cornerbacks for the vast majority of the game were Ashton Stamps and Sage Ryan while we saw a little bit of PJ Woodland and Jyaire Brown. This weekend we can certainly expect more snaps for the younger guys which Brian Kelly confirmed.
"We like the work that Ashton provided us, we think PJ's coming along. Ashton is a sophomore, PJ's a true freshman. Sage is a guy that has flexibility that he could play corner and play safety for us. The next level players for us become JK Johnson and Jyaire Brown, they have to continue to develop and that's where the cornerback room starts and ends."

We didn't see Zy Alexander at cornerback or on special teams against USC as he continues to work back from his ACL injury. We should see Alexander return to the field this weekend as LSU eases him back into playing time.
"He's made really good progress and what you'll see is his workload as it relates to plays, will increase dramatically over the next four weeks and it'll start this week on special teams. Then we'll continue to pick up at the corner position. The plan has always been about gradually bringing him in and the reps will start with increased work on special teams and then corner work and that will gradually pick up."

A shakeup is coming for the LSU Football team
We all knew coming into the season that the secondary was going to need some work to continue to develop. The development of Ashton Stamps and Jordan Allen was a great sign for the future but, this LSU secondary is still a ways away from its final form. The Tigers will get to use these next few games as a trial period to see which combinations of players best suit them for the tougher portion of the schedule. It may be in the best interest of this defense this season and beyond if LSU is able to work PJ Woodland and either Kylin Jackson or Dashawn Spears into a starting role where they can continue to develop.
