LSU women's basketball hosts in a very tough region of the NCAA Tournament

The Tigers look to go back-to-back in the NCAA Tournament, but they have a tough region ahead of them.

We already have a potential rematch of last year's National Championship, and no it won't be in the National Championship again. The LSU Tigers were awarded the three-seed in the Albany 2 Region, which in my opinion is the toughest region in the NCAA Women's Tournament.

There could be an Angel Reese-Caitlin Clark matchup sooner than people thought as the Hawkeyes and the Tigers are in the same region. This is also the same region that has UCLA and Kansas State, two high-powered teams.

However, before the Tigers can think about rematches, they need to get through the first couple of games that they will be hosting. In the first round, Kim Mulkey and her crew will welcome 14-seed Rice to Death Valley on Friday, March 22 at 4:00 p.m.

If the Tigers win that first matchup, they will continue to stay at home and play the winner of Louisville and Middle Tennessee State University. Hailey Van Lith could have a matchup against her former team if Louisville wins their first-round matchup as well.

LSU will be coming off a tough and physical game against South Carolina in the SEC Championship, and when I say physical, I do mean the fight that took place. The game against the Gamecocks was a chippy one as these teams were going at it all game. Tensions were high and finally reached thier boiling point with about two minutes left in the game.

To make a long story short, South Carolina stole the ball, LSU fouled, there was talking back and forth and Kamilla Cardoso came in and escalated things by bulldozing Flau'jae Johnson causing both benches to get involved.

In the end, both benches and Cardoso were ejected from the game, but Cardoso is the only one that was ejected for fighting meaning she won't be eligible to play in the first round for South Carolina. All LSU players will be eligible since they were ejected for leaving the bench area but did not get involved.

The Tigers are still playing some of their best basketball right now and look like a force to be reckoned with. This is a team anyone should be scared to play right now. In a tough region, it is hard to say what will happen, but I for one an excited to watch how this plays out.
