The LSU Football program extends an offer to the best quarterback in the 2027 class

The LSU Football team doesn't have a commitment at quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class but, that isn't a massive shock. Given the fact that LSU landed the top quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class in Bryce Underwood, it was going to be impossible for the Tigers to land a quarterback. Given how NIL has made starting as soon as possible it'll be rare to find a player like Garrett Nussmeier who was willing to sit for years behind another starter.

This made the 2027 recruiting class of quarterbacks incredibly important for LSU as they'd need to find their heir to their current plan of Bryce Underwood. LSU had solid footing as well as the Nation's top overall recruit was from Louisiana while Malachi Zeigler is another highly-ranked quarterback in-state. There was also a connection with Garrett's younger brother Colton Nussmeier who's a four-star recruit in this class.

The Tigers had built connections with all of these quarterbacks along with a few others in this recruiting class but, they hadn't extended a scholarship offer to any of them. Given how early quarterbacks commit to their future school it was becoming apparent that LSU needed to extend an offer to their pick of the litter sooner rather than later.

Joe Sloan was at the Dunham School on Friday to watch Elijah Dunham in his game. After the game, Dunham expressed his feelings on LSU and his hopes that they'd soon offer him a scholarship.

Well, Joe Sloan came through for Haven and offered the star Sophomore a scholarship.

This is a massive commitment by Joe Sloan as he has now picked his top quarterback in this class over a few very talented quarterbacks. While its a massive commitment from Joe Sloan, it's very likely the right one. Given that every recruiting site has Elijah Dunham ranked as the top quarterback in the class, having Dunham on board would be massive for LSU in recruiting the rest of the class.

Thus far, LSU has gotten Elijah Dunham to both home games on recruiting visits and they'll get him on campus a ton of times before he signs with a school on National Signing Day.

Oh how the times have changed

During most of the 2000s and 2010s the LSU Football team always seemed a quarterback away from winning a National Championship. From 2019 on, LSU has been unbelievable at the position with Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels winning Heisman's while Garrett Nussmeier has looked the part. Then you look on the recruiting trail and LSU has a chance to land two top ranked quarterbacks in three years.
