The month of July into the early portion of August is one of the busiest recruiting periods of the year as schools across the country fill out their recruiting classes. One of the recruits LSU made a strong push for in July was Destrehan wide receiver Phillip Wright. On his commitment date, Wright chose the Michigan Wolverines over the LSU Tigers. As soon as Wright picked the Wolverines everyone noted that LSU would make it difficult on the Michigan to sign Wright.

The Tigers then hosted Wright in Baton Rouge in the brief return to recruiting visits where the LSU staff seemingly made a great impression explaining why the Tigers were slow to recruit Wright. This recruitment was seemingly turning LSU's way as they picked up a crystal ball prediction on Sunday.

The prediction was followed by the news that Phillip Wright had informed Michigan he was no longer committed to the Wolverines.

The move now pushes everything the Tigers way and LSU will now look to close out this recruitment prior to the start of the season. LSU has every thing they could possibly want in a recruiting pitch as the hometown team while one of Wright's closest friends Jhase Thomas is already committed.

On3 ranks Phillip Wright as a three-star receiver as the 49th ranked receiver in the class and as the 13th ranked player in Louisiana.

Phillip Wright would be an incredible add to this recruiting class

The LSU Football team already has a pair of commitments at wide receiver in TaRon Francis and Derek Meadows however, LSU has been looking to add more. Wright brings a different factor than any receiver the Tigers have on board or are targeting with elite top end speed. Wright won the Louisiana 5A Regional Championship in the 100 and 200 with times of 10.57 and 21.41. Landing Wright would give this class the type of receiver that could take the top off of any defense which is always a great commodity to have.
