This weekends game was exactly what LSU fans were wishing for even though the performance came against South Alabama. The defense allowed just one touchdown which was a much welcomed sight. On offense, LSU moved the ball at will scoring often outside of a few forced interceptions from Garrett Nussmeier.

For the performance, LSU had two players named to Pro Football Focus’ All SEC team in Caden Durham and Garrett Dellinger.

The emergence of Caden Durham has been massive for the LSU Football team and has made the offense more explosive. The first two and a half games of the season, opposing defenses knew that LSU was going to pass the ball at a high rate because none of the running backs were creating explosive plays.

This weekend Durham did just that taking the opening offensive snap 71 yards for a touchdown on a Garrett Nussmeier screen. For an encore, Durham took his first carry for 86 yards setting up a Garrett Nussmeier rushing touchdown.

Part of LSU’s emergence in the running game has been the improved blocking up front. The Tigers are having their most rushing success when they run left behind Will Campbell and Garrett Dellinger.

A played in the secondary has to step up

If you’re looking for an area you’d like to see better play out of, it is far and away LSU’s secondary. The Tigers have dealt with injuries all season at cornerback which has hurt the team. The team returned a ton of veterans at safety yet, they haven’t played well enough. Against Ole Miss, LSU’s defensive backs will need to play a strong game if the Tigers are going to slow Ole Miss’ strong passing attack.
