Week One Rooting Guide for LSU Football fans as the Tigers look to climb the AP Poll
This weekend, College Football finally gets back into the full swing of things as every team will be in action. LSU Football fans will be glued to the TV waiting patiently for Sunday night for the start of the Tigers season. While we can hardly wait for LSU to kick off it's season, the benefit of not playing until Sunday is being able to watch all day Saturday rooting for chaos. If LSU is going to start it's push for the College Football Playoff, you'll want to root for these teams.
Florida Gators Vs #19 Miami Hurricanes
While neither of these teams are ranked ahead of the Tigers, there are a few reasons to pull for the Gators in this one. For starters, the Tigers will play Florida near the end of the season in the Swamp so you'd rather that the game could be a boost for LSU's resume. If the Tigers are going to make the playoff, the ACC and Big 12 need to be one bid conferences which means a Miami loss would likely shorten the field in the ACC. Finally, DJ Pickett chose LSU over Miami but, he'll be visiting for this game so it'd be nice if Florida knocked off the Canes.
#14 Clemson Vs #1 Georgia
While it would be great to see the Nation's top ranked team topple, it really doesn't help LSU. Georgia winning will which is why LSU will root for Georgia and Florida. An ACC team will make the Playoff but, ensuring the league doesn't get an at-large bid will be massive for LSU. The Bulldogs should win and a loss to Ole Miss or Alabama would help the Tigers if LSU beats both or just one.
#8 Penn State Vs West Virginia
The Penn State Nittany Lions are the team everyone says will benefit from the 12 team College Football Playoff but, its hard to believe in James Franklin every year. Unranked West Virginia at home is a much tougher opponent than it appears on paper. The Mountaineers have a dark horse Heisman candidate in quarterback Garrett Greene and a win over Penn State would be a great resume starter. Penn State losing would be a massive blow to their playoff hopes and would in turn give LSU an even greater chance at making the Playoff.
#7 Notre Dame Vs #20 Texas A&M
One of the biggest things to root for is Notre Dame losses as the Fighting Irish can only make the College Football Playoff as an at-large team. This is a matchup of former coach in Mike Elko vs former quarterback Riley Leonard and who knows Leonard better than Elko? College Station will be rocking to open the season and a Notre Dame loss gives them little to no wiggle room for making the College Football Playoff.
Boston College Vs #10 Florida State
There hasn't been an update to the AP Poll yet, so the Florida State Seminoles will enter this game as the tenth ranked team after losing this weekend. Many expect that the Seminoles will return home and get back on track when they take on a Boston College team that is replacing it's head coach. The Seminoles should be on upset alert and they could easily be 0-2 in conference leaving the weekend.
The Seminoles barely pulled off a victory in 2023, just barely hanging on to win 31-29 after allowing 13 fourth quarter points. In that game dual threat quarterback Thomas Castellanos passed for 305 yards and rushed for another 95 with two touchdowns and an interception. Bill O'Brien will have a chance to pick up a massive win in his first game as Boston College's coach.
