Weekend Rooting Guide for LSU Football fans as the Tigers are on the Bye
After an electric weekend of College Football last weekend, this weekend's slate is clearly a step below as we'll get just one matchup between ranked teams. The thing is you never judge a book by its cover and you never judge a slate by its ranked matchups as chaos always rises up when you least expect it.
The LSU Tigers are on the bye this weekend but, they still could continue their rise back up the AP Poll and back into the College Football Playoff picture. While there won't be too many good games to give LSU a chance at taking a jump, chaos could be LSU's best friend. When you're watching College Football this weekend, you'll want to keep an eye on these games as they could help LSU in moving up the playoff picture.
#9 Missouri at #25 Texas A&M
The Texas A&M Aggies have been able to stay afloat despite being without starting Quarterback Connor Weigman. This weekend, LSU fans should be rooting for the Aggies as they host the Missouri Tigers. Mizzou us ranked 9th in the AP Poll and ESPN's FPI gives them a 31.6% chance of making the College Football Playoff. If the Tigers win this game they'll most likely finish at worst 10-2 which would put them into the College Football Playoff. The Aggies winning would give them a massive boost which could help LSU as they'll face the Aggies later in the year.
#12 Ole Miss at South Carolina
This is a game that truly can't have a bad result for the LSU Football team as they'll have a chance to beat Ole Miss next weekend while they've already beaten South Carolina. If LSU fans needed to root for one team in this game it would be Ole Miss however. The Tigers will need a potential win over Ole Miss to be a resume piece and the Rebels taking a second loss before facing LSU would hurt the Tigers' chances of beating a playoff contender.
#15 Clemson at Florida State
The Florida State Seminoles have been an outright dumpster fire this season but, they still have a talented roster. It feels like a long time since the term Clemsoning was used but, this weekend has a chance to bring it back. Ever since the Tigers got demolished by Georgia, they've looked solid but, Florida State could pull off a shocker this weekend. Brock Glenn will get his first start of the season this weekend and the lack of tape on Glenn could give the Tigers some issues. A Clemson loss would damage the ACC's chances at getting a second team into the College Football Playoff which would be massive for LSU's playoff hopes.
Auburn at #5 Georgia
The Auburn Tigers have struggled mightily winning games and this weekend against Georgia may be their toughest yet. Hugh Freeze is trying everything to get their offense to work and against a tough Georgia defense they could struggle again. Regardless, LSU fans should be rooting for Auburn as they take on Georgia coming off of a loss. Auburn is likely out of the Playoff race while Georgia still has a 72.6% chance of making the playoff. The Tigers have the advantage of playing in Jordan-Hare where anything could happen and a Georgia loss would open everything up in the SEC.
#4 Tennessee at Arkansas
The Tennessee Volunteers have been dominant this season and they had a bye week to prepare for this weekend's game. Coming off of a back breaking loss to Texas A&M, Sam Pittman may be coaching for his job as Arkansas will head to the bye week after this game which is the perfect time for a coaching change. Arkansas' defense has posted some solid performances and a great game this weekend could give Arkansas chance to pull off a stunner denting Tennessee's playoff hopes.
#8 Miami at California
This weekend's slate isn't great which is shown by the College Football Gameday game being between Miami and California. The Golden Bears have shown some promise this season and their fanbase has rallied around this team. While California may be outmatched, it should be an electric environment as Gameday returns for the first time in over ten years. A Miami loss would set up chaos in the ACC and further bolster the SEC's chances of getting an extra team in via the at-large bids.
