Would this be the perfect Les Miles offense given his style of play at LSU?
The subject of Les Miles is a sore subject at LSU as the former coach is currently suing the University for vacating wins due to recruiting violations. The biggest issue with Les Miles was that he failed to adapt, continuing to run a run heavy offense while the rest of the country was scoring loads of points with the passing attack.
If you look at Les Miles' teams during his tenure at LSU there are a ton of rosters that would make more sense under Brian Kelly. The 2013 team is a perfect example as Odell Beckham Jr and Jarvis Landry better fit the high octane style of College Football in this era rather than Miles' run heavy attack.
With that said, wouldn't this 2024 roster be the perfect offense for Les Miles and the way he liked to play football? Miles would have four running backs all with a ton of talent who could've been the bellcow back he he'd hand the ball to twenty or more times per game.
The strength of the SEC ultimately slowed the LSU offense under Miles as programs had the defensive line depth and talent to beat LSU's offensive line. The 2024 Tigers team features arguably the top offensive line in the country and if you asked the group, they'd probably tell you that they'd love to demolish a defensive line every play of the game.
In Josh Williams and Kaleb Jackson, Miles would have two powerful backs perfectly fitting the mold of a Les Miles running back. He'd have a back in John Emery Jr who's experienced in pass protection and a freshman in Caden Durham who we'd certainly see given Miles' history of playing freshmen.
LSU Football is in a much better place with Brian Kelly
Les Miles will forever be a divisive figure in LSU history given his National Championship win while he often underperformed with a ton of talent. While Miles always had the potential of a massive season, the floor with Brian Kelly is much higher than it was under Miles. We can joke about Miles' addiction to running the football but, moving on from Miles gave us one of the greatest passing offenses in the history of football in 2019 and another high-octane last season.
