Potential Brian Kelly replacement at LSU immediately throws cold water on the rumors

Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham was a big name that popped up for the LSU opening, but he made his stance on the job very clear.

With Brian Kelly being fired on Sunday, the LSU head coaching position just became one of the best openings in the country, along with Penn State and Florida. However, with other premier programs like the Gators and Nittany Lions with vacancies as well, there will certainly be some competition over the best candidates.

Of course, for both the LSU and Florida position, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has been at the top of the list; however, there was another name floating around from outside the SEC that people were liking. Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham led his team to a Big 12 Championship in just his second season and to the College Football Playoff.

The Sun Devils came so close to taking down the Texas Longhorns in the Quarterfinals, but fell just short. The turnaround that Dillingham made possible with the Sun Devils has been great at Arizona State, so his being a candidate is not all that far-fetched.

When you ask him about the opening, though, it seems Dillingham is pretty happy with where he is right now and isn't making any plans anytime soon to leave.

"My number one focus is our players, our football team," Dillingham said in his weekly press conference. "Everything about us, that simple. I am so singularly focused on us.

This is the answer that a lot of fanbases wished they were getting from their winning head coaches. Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman strung the fans out a little bit after finally rejecting any new openings. Nebraska's Matt Rhule hasn't necessarily shut down the rumors, and neither has Kiffin.

While it is a wonder how Dillingham would fare in the SEC, it doesn't look like he is going to be a candidate for this position, at least for right now. Who knows, things could change once the season is over.
