It was senior night for the LSU women's basketball team on Thursday night at the PMAC, and the purple and gold delivered in a big way. The Tigers took care of business against the Volunteers, as they walked away with an 89-73 victory to secure a double bye in the upcoming SEC Tournament. LSU has now won three consecutive games following a tough loss to South Carolina on February 14.

In addition to improving to 25-4 overall and 11-4 in SEC play this season, LSU's win over Tennessee on Thursday night secured SEC history for Kim Mulkey.

Kim Mulkey makes SEC history in win over Tennessee

There have been countless great head coaches in the SEC throughout the years, but Mulkey has now accomplished something nobody else has. With LSU's win over Tennessee, Mulkey becomes the first SEC head coach to win 25+ games in each of their first five seasons with a team.

In addition to making SEC history on Thursday night, Mulkey gave a signature interview with ESPN's Holly Rowe at halftime:

Now in her 5th season in Baton Rouge, Mulkey owns an overall record of 141-24 with the Tigers, which includes a stellar 57-15 mark in SEC play. She has led LSU to the NCAA Tournament in every season in Baton Rouge, and famously led the program to its first National Championship back in the 2022-23 season.

Tiger fans are excited to see what this team can do in March, as Mulkey has the Tigers well-positioned for another title run in 2026. LSU is tentatively projected to be a No. 3 seed for March Madness, which is the same seed it owned during its National Championship winning season a few years ago.

But before the NCAA Tournament begins, LSU has one final regular season game remaining. The Tigers are set to close out the regular season on Sunday, March 1 in Starkville against Mississippi State. Then, the SEC Tournament takes place from March 4-8 in Nashville.
