Tiger Stadium will be rocking tonight as LSU is set to host Florida at 6:30 p.m. CT. It's the SEC opener for both teams, and given the wild games that these teams have played in recent matchups, it could be a closely-contested game that comes down to the final minutes. Despite Florida's crushing loss to USF last weekend, LSU can't afford to overlook the Gators in any way.

If LSU is going to move to 3-0 on the season, it will rely on the right arm veteran QB Garrett Nussmeier. The Lake Charles native entered the season tied for the second-best odds to win the Heisman Trophy. He remains second on the list entering Week 3, although his odds have changed a bit. On Saturday morning, one SEC Netowrk analyst gave Nussmeier some serious praise heading into LSU's matchup against Florida.

Jordan Rodgers gives high praise to Garrett Nussmeier

When speaking about key players stepping up in rivalry games, SEC Analyst Jordan Rodgers had a lot of good things to say about Nussmeier. "He's had a little bit of a slow start to the season, but [Garrett Nussmeier] is the best quarterback in college football," said Rodgers. "I still believe he'll be holding the Heisman Trophy when it's all said and done."

Rodgers noted that Nussmeier is so good off-platform and when the prssure is one. He added that Nussmeier rose to the occasion down the stretch against Clemson. In that game, Nussmeier went a perfect 9-for-9 for 39 yards and a touchdown in the fourth quarter. On the season, the fifth-year QB has completed 54 of his 79 pass attempts for 469 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.

Through two games, Rodgers gave Nussmeier a "B" grade, but says he is more than capable of putting together a stand-out performance against Florida. "These are the games, the rivalry games, where the stars are stars. They start their Heisman campaigns and they break out," Rodgers added.

Nussmeier and the Tigers will look for a faster start on offense in Week 3 against the Gators. The offense looked out of whack last week against Louisiana Tech, but Tiger fans are still confident in Nussmeier's ability to get the offense going. If Nussmeier puts up strong numbers and leads LSU to a win, he will remain firmly in the Hiesman conversation.
