The preseason hype continues to build for the LSU Baseball program heading into the 2026 season. After winning national titles in two of the last three seasons, Jay Johnson has his team well-positioned for another title run in Omaha this season.

The LSU vs Texas spread shows just how much the Tigers are being overlooked

On Thursday, the preseason accolades continued to roll in for the Tigers with the release of the SEC Preseason Coaches Poll. Not surprisingly, LSU was picked to win the league.

The SEC's 16 head coaches voted in the poll, which saw LSU lead the pack in total points (231) and first place votes (9).

Preseason accolades continue rolling in for LSU Baseball

Earning No. 1 honors is nothing new for LSU this preseason. Earlier this week, the Tigers claimed the No. 1 spot in the USA Today Baseball Coaches Preseason Poll.

In addition to the SEC Coaches Poll, LSU has now earned Top-2 honors in four different preseason rankings over the last month. In January, LSU was ranked No. 1 by Perfect Game, No. 2 by D1 Baseball and No. 2 by Baseball America in their respective preseason polls.

All of that high praise means expectations are sky high once again for the Tigers. It's one thing to receive No. 1 rankings from national media outlets, but when the SEC coaches agree LSU is the top team in the league entering 2026, the hype becomes even greater. LSU returns 19 players from last year's National Championship team, and added plenty of talent through the transfer portal and high school ranks with 20 newcomers joining the squad for 2026.

The start of the season is right around the corner, with Opening Day now a week away. The Tigers open the new season next Friday, February 13 at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field against Milwaukee.
