The LSU Tigers took advantage of a poor South Carolina offensive line to pickup a 20-10 win over the Gamecocks in Week 7. Entering Saturday's contest at Tiger Stadium, South Carolina had allowed 15 sacks through five games, which ranked 117th in the country. The Tigers collected five sacks on the night, and made life difficult for LaNorris Sellers all game long.
South Carolina's 20 sacks allowed on the season now rank 124th in the country out of 134 FBS teams. That's not exactly ideal, and South Carolina Frank Beamer has made some major changes to his coaching staff following LSU's strong defensive effort against his Gamecocks.
LSU defense forces Shane Beamer to change up his coaching staff
Following South Carolina's third loss of the season, Beamer has relieved offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley of his duties. The move is effective immediately, and South Carolina run game coordinator/tight ends coach Shawn Elliott will take over as Beamer's offensive line coach. Teasley had been with the Gamecocks since 2021, and was in his third season as the OL coach.
South Carolina's offensive line has struggled all season long, and injuries haven't helped. The Gamecocks were down several players up front against the Tigers, and Blake Baker's defense took advantage. Harold Perkins Jr, Whit Weeks, DJ Pickett, and Bernard Gooden all recorded a sack, while Jack Pyburn and Patrick Payton each recorded half a sack. Sellers was under pressure all night long, and managed to throw for just 124 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.
South Carolina ranks last in total offense in the SEC, averaging just 310 yards per game. The Tigers held the Gamecocks to 317 total yards and forced a pair of turnovers while holding South Carolina to just 10 points. The win gave LSU its 9th straight win over the Gamecocks.
