The LSU Basketball team kicks off its season on Wednesday night as the Tigers will host Louisiana Monroe. The Tigers are looking to bounce back after finishing 17-16 and 9-9 in the SEC missing out on the NCAA Tournament once again. The Tigers however are projected to finish at or near the bottom of the SEC which isn't ideal as the Tigers enter the third season under Matt McMahon.

Considering that its year three under Matt McMahon the goal is that this team returns to competing near the top of the SEC. Its hard to imagine LSU competing for an SEC Title but, the team needs to improve this season.

The Field of 68 with Jeff Goodman, Rob Dauster, and Jeff Borzello named Matt McMahon to their list of coaches on the hot seat.

Jeff Borzello named Matt McMahon as one of the candidates we may see fired a year sooner than we may expect if LSU has a bad season this year.

Its hard to envision a world where LSU fires Matt McMahon unless this season is an outright disaster. Helping McMahon's case if this season goes wrong is the fact that he's doing great on the recruiting trail holding the Nation's tenth ranked recruiting class.

LSU Basketball will outperform expectations in 2024-25

This season the LSU Basketball team will surprise many and will finish much higher in the standings than expected. Matt McMahon brought a solid blend of experienced high scoring transfers and highly touted freshmen which will elevate this groups potential. The biggest concern for LSU should be its chemistry early on as this is a group that for the most part hasn't played together but, they'll have the talent at guard to compete with antone in the Country.
