The class is headlined by Pitcher William Schmidt who was projected to be a late first round pick in this year's MLB Draft but, he pulled out of the Draft on Draft Day. Schmidt could push for a starting role but, he'll most likely help the Tigers in the bullpen.
Derek Curriel is the top position player LSU was able to sign as a top 10 player in the Country according to Perfect Game. Curriel was a top 100 prospect for the Draft according to Baseball America and his return gives LSU another solid option in the Outfield.
After getting William Schmidt and Derek Curriel to pull out of the MLB Draft, Jay Johnson pulled another player out of the Draft in Catcher Cade Arrambide to pull out of the Draft on the second day of the Draft. Arrambide was the third of the top 15 high school recruits to pull his name out of the draft to attend LSU. While Arrambide may not start at catcher in year one, he should see ample playing time which will only help in his development.
Earlier this week, Perfect Game released its top 75 Freshmen for the season with Derek Curriel ranked 1st, William Schmidt 4th, Cade Arrambide 15th, Casan Evans 26th, Ryan Costello 32nd, Mavrick Rizy 36th, Cooper Williams 67th, and Mikey Ryan 69th.
