The LSU Football team is now awaiting three important NFL Draft decisions
Thus far the offseason has given LSU new players thanks to the Early Signing Period and it has taken players away due to the transfer portal and NFL Draft decisions. Thus far, LSU has lost Left Tackle Will Campbell and Tight End Mason Taylor to the NFL Draft which is a blow for the team as Taylor returning would've helped with replacing Kyren Lacy and CJ Daniels production. Now, LSU has three massive decisions to watch as they could change the 2025 season.
The most important of the three is quarterback Garrett Nussmeier as he plays the most important position. If Garrett Nussmeier returns, LSU gets one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC returning for a second season which will help him take a massive jump. If Nussmeier declares for the NFL Draft, LSU will be in scramble mode for their next starting quarterback as Rickie Collins entered the transfer portal and there is no clear replacement aside from a potential transfer.
Right behind Garrett Nussmeier in importance in 2025 is Right Tackle Emery Jones Jr. If Jones returns, LSU has the choice of moving him to left tackle to replace Will Campbell while it also gives LSU one less hole on the offensive line to fill. If Jones enters the NFL Draft, LSU will need to fill every position on the offensive line except for Center which is a tall task in one off season.
Finally, the LSU Football team is awaiting a decision from Linebacker Harold Perkins Jr as to what his next step is. Getting Harold Perkins Jr back would give Blake Baker another defensive chess piece he can unleash either on the edge, at linebacker, or at Star. Losing Harold Perkins Jr would hurt as it feels that he still could prove a ton in the right system benefitting himself and the team.
Garrett Nussmeier and Emery Jones could determine the ceiling for LSU
The decisions by Nussmeier and Emery Jones may determine whether LSU is a College Football Playoff team or a team going through a rebuilding year. LSU will have a new group of pass catchers and a new offensive line which is a bad situation to break in a new quarterback. Getting Emery Jones back to protect Nussmeier will be massive for LSU as he can bring experience to what will be a new offensive line.
