The LSU Football team sees its Playoff chances rise once again in ESPN's FPI
After losing the opening game of the season, LSU's chances of making the College Football Playoff looked bleak. Since that point, all LSU has done is improve going on a six game win streak, slowly putting itself in the College Football Playoff conversation. For LSU, the Tigers only need to win these games as every week it seems like a National Title contender is losing a game they shouldn't have.
Last Week after knocking of Ole Miss, LSU's chances to make the College Football Playoff was at 26.4% according to ESPN's Football Power Index. After beating Arkansas, LSU's chances have risen again as the Tigers now have a 39.7% chance of making the Playoff according to the Football Power Index.
The Tigers are helped the most as the Alabama Crimson Tide's 68.9% chance of making the playoffs has fallen to 43.5% which still may be too high. Texas' 95.9% chance of making the Playoff didn't take too much of a hit as it has fallen to 78.9%.
LSU has a chance to directly help it's chances this weekend when the Tigers take on Texas A&M who has a 31.3% chance of making the Playoff. Navy's 8.3% chance of making the Playoff will either rise or fall after taking on Notre Dame (55.6%) this weekend. Indiana has a 63.8% chance of making the Playoff which may take a hit as starting quarterback Kurtis Rourke will miss time with an injury.
In the SEC, Alabama and Missouri (15.8%) will faceoff with the loser most likely eliminated from College Football Playoff contention. The Group of Five bid race will take a swing this weekend as Boise State (46.0%) will take on UNLV (18.2%).
This will be a massive weekend for LSU
If LSU is able to pull of a win this weekend, the Tigers will be in an incredible position to make the College Football Playoff. Beating Texas A&M will give LSU sole possession of first place in the SEC and another resume building win. A loss for LSU on the other hand will give LSU no wiggle room the rest of the way with tough games against Alabama, Oklahoma, and Vanderbilt all left on the schedule.
