The LSU Lady Tigers dominate in their exhibition game against Xavier (NO)
Last night, the 2024 - 2025 LSU Women's Basketball team got their first action in a game scenario against Xavier (New Orleans). The Tigers dominated the game winning 114 - 53 as the group continues to build chemistry ahead of the start to the season.
LSU's dominant duo was incredible as Flau'Jae Johnson scored 30 points in 29 minutes shooting 13-19 from the field and 2-4 from three while grabbing 10 rebounds with 3 assists. Aneesah Morrow was right there with Johnson scoring 19 points in 26 minutes on 7 of 15 shooting while also grabbing ten rebounds.
The newcomers were the sight to see as Kim Mulkey's offseason additions got their first game action for the Tigers. Transfer portal additions Jersey Wolfenbarger and Mjracle Sheppard each had 12 points. Transfer Shayeann Day-Wilson started for the Tigers and finished the game with 7 points and 4 assists.
The Tigers got an exciting look into the future as well as true freshman Jada Richard scored 14 points on 4 of 6 shooting making both of her three point attempts.
Preseason All-SEC Second Team honoree Mikaylah Williams didn't play in this game, neither did Sa'Myah Smith or Last-Tear Poa. After the game, Kim Mulkey said that she chose not to play Smith while Williams is dealing with a rolled ankle and Poa is "handling stuff off the court".
Overall, the team did what was expected of them dominating this exhibition game against a lesser opponent. The biggest positive is that Flau'Jae Johnson looks ready to lead this team after Angel Reese's departure to the WNBA. This team has a ton of depth and a ton of players that fit Kim Mulkey's system compared to next year but, we won't have a true feel for this team until they face another strong team.
