The third day of the NFL Draft is underway as NFL teams make their final selections. While the first two days give NFL teams cornerstone pieces, the best team are able to use day 3 to find potential starters. The LSU Tigers are having a busy Day Three as Bradyn Swinson is the latest LSU Tiger to hear his name called as the Patriots select him in the 5th round with the 146th overall pick.
The Patriots gets a massive steal in LSU edge rusher Bradyn Swinson
Bradyn Swinson started his career at Oregon where he played three seasons for the Ducks recording 3 sacks as a rotational piece. Upon transferring to LSU, Swinson was a rotational pass rusher who showed a ton of promise but, didn't get the playing time he likely should've received recording 2 sacks.
When LSU changed defensive staffs hiring defensive coordinator Blake Baker and edge rushers coach Kevin Peoples, Swinson reached his full potential. This past season Swinson exploded recording 8.5 sacks with 59 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and 3 pass deflections. The season took Swinson from a relative unknown to an elite NFL Draft prospect.
For the Patriots, getting an edge rusher with Swinson's talent and production this late in the draft is incredible value. Swinson will have familiar faces in the locker room as he joins LSU stars Will Campbell and Kayshon Boutte in New England.
If Bradyn Swinson continues to develop as he did this season he'll be one of the biggest steals of the entire draft. Swinson has just about every tool an NFL team would like in an edge rusher which makes him a hidden gem. Swinson has an incredible first step off of the line with great speed which he converts to power beating offensive tackles in multiple ways.
While Bradyn Swinson still has a ton of room to grow and develop, the Patriots have to be thrilled with the untapped potential paired with the ability he's already shown. Swinson is a high motor player and will make an instant impact while he could develop into one of the best edge rushers in the NFL.
