Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers remain firmly in the hunt to land one of the top cornerbacks in the country. Joshua Dobson is a 6'1" 170-pound cornerback from North Carolina who has garnered the attention of Kiffin and his staff. Dobson recently visited Baton Rouge and now finds himself skyrocketing up in recruiting rankings.

On Monday, Dobson surged in the latest recruiting rankings from Rivals300. In addition to earning 5-star status, Dobson is now the No. 1 cornerback in the country for the 2027 recruiting class.

Dobson is also the top overall player in the state of North Carolina, and the No. 7 overall player in the country. As it stands, Tiger fans should feel good about LSU's chances of landing the talented defensive back.

LSU the frontrunner to land 5-star cornerback Joshua Dobson

LSU appears to be in the drivers seat to land Dobson. According to Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine, LSU has a 79.1% chance to win the recruiting battle to sign Dobson. In addition to LSU, Dobson has received offers from Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, South Carolina, Texas, and Florida State, among others.

Dobson was in Baton Rouge for an unofficial visit at the end of January, and spoke very highly of his visit. In an interview with Rivals, Dobson described his trip to Baton Rouge as an "amazing weekend." Dobson was also in Baton Rouge back on October 11 when LSU defeated South Carolina by a score of 20-10 in front of a raucous crowd at Tiger Stadium. The atmosphere in Death Valley that night was arguably the best of the season, and his positive review of his visit gives Kiffin and his staff even more momentum in his recruitment.

While LSU should feel good about its chances to land Dobson, it would also be beneficial to get him back on campus for an official visit. Dobsin still has 12 schools in the mix, and several of them are eyeing multi-day visits with the highly-touted defensive star. If LSU wants to stay in the drivers seat, getting Dobson back to Baton Rouge for an official visit needs to be a top priority for Kiffin and his staff.

At this time, LSU's 2027 class features 4-star EDGE Jaiden Bryant and 4-star QB Peyton Houston. With his new 5-star status, Dobson has a chance to be the first 5-star prospect in LSU's 2027 class.
