Top Transfer Portal Wide Receiver Johntay Cook expresses interest in LSU

The Transfer Portal is officially in full swing as players across the Country are entering the transfer portal searching for their next team. The LSU Tigers have only lost Rickie Collins thus far but, there will likely be more players that enter in the days and weeks to come. The Tigers are expected to be heavy players in the transfer portal as Brian Kelly told the media last week.

"We will be very aggressive. We weren't in the transfer portal last year. Put together a Defensive Line with minimal resources. We stayed, to use a term loosely, well under the cap. We're also bringing in 16 mid-years (Freshmen) and maybe the largest transfer portal class as well."

One of the positions that LSU will need to target is Wide Receiver as Kyren Lacy is out of eligibility and off to the NFL Draft. The Tigers currently hold commitments from three Wide Receivers but, it's more likely than not they only sign two as Derek Meadows is most likely flipping.

Given that LSU likely will only sign two wide receivers it becomes a position for the Tigers to target in the transfer portal. The Tigers can go the instant top end starter like Kevin Concepcion, or it can be for a younger player who they hope can develop.

One player has already put his interest to play at LSU out in public in Texas transfer Johntay Cook II. On Saturday, Cook responded to a tweet asking him to play with Garrett Nussmeier by saying LSU should reach out.

As a recruit, Cook was a five-star recruit in the 2023 class ranked as the 31st ranked player in the class and the 3rd ranked wide receiver. Through a season and a half at Texas, Cook has caught 16 passes for 273 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The reason for the lack of production has been the fact that Texas went all out in the portal grabbing veteran wide receivers blocking Cook's path to the field.

Before Cook committed to Texas, LSU did have him on campus so there is already a bit of a relationship. We'll find out if LSU ever reaches out to Johntay Cook II but, he's certainly a name to keep in the back of your head as that transfer portal starts moving.
