Last night, Alex Bregman left a lasting final impression on LSU baseball fans during his final at-bat at The Box. After a hitless postseason, he came through when it mattered most, delivering a two-out, two-RBI single to help sweep UL-Lafayette and send the Tigers to the College World Series.

His week got even better tonight, as he was selected second overall in the MLB Draft by an organization with one of the brightest futures in professional baseball; the Houston Astros.

Our scouting specialist, Geoffrey Godfrey, broke down Bregman’s MLB Draft outlook just a couple of weeks ago, and his analysis was was spot on:

"This is a hard year to gauge the top three offensive prospects in the MLB Draft; Dansby Swanson, Alex Bregman and Brendan Rodgers. This is due to the simple fact that they all play the same coveted position; shortstop.More from Death Valley VoiceLSU Football: There is terrible news regarding Greg Brooks Jr.LSU Football: ESPN makes hilarious blunder regarding Malik NabersCincinnati Bengals are mismanaging quarterback Joe BurrowMichigan State must consider Ed Orgeron to replace Mel TuckerLSU Football: Welcome to Arkansas Razorbacks hate weekWhile they are all similar in some ways, each player has their own unique strengths. Only one of those three looks to be a lock to remain at the position in the pros at the moment, and that is Swanson. This is where Alex Bregman’s draft stock can soar.Scouts will definitely be eyeing the LSU shortstop as a future All-Star, but it is unsure what position he will be doing so at. Teams have only witnessed his elite defensive ability at shortstop, but he is viewed as a player that could play either position in the middle of the infield at the next level. With so few teams having a top-tier talent at second base, this is a big opportunity for any team looking to bolster their infield. The Top 10 of the draft in most circles is a never-ending jostling of starting pitchers, shortstops, and outfielders. Fortunately for the big league hopeful Alex Bregman, he is more polished than anyone else in the 2015 MLB Draft, except for maybe Swanson from Vanderbilt. However, only one of the two has the No. 1 team in the country on easy-street to the College World Series, and that player is Bregman. He is a great contact hitter with some pop, has more wheels than a semi-truck and has a rifle for an arm that is now on ATF’s radar. Coming out of college so polished will help him progress quickly through the minors."

Godfrey even predicted the Houston Astros to select him in the draft, albeit three picks later at No. 5 overall.

Houston selecting Bregman so high in the draft may raise some eyebrows, especially considering that their most-prized prospect Carlos Correa is making his Major League debut tonight, and he just so happens to play shortstop as well.

Do not worry, though, LSU baseball and Houston Astros fans. Bregman is the definition of a team-first guy, and he will play whichever role the franchise asks of him. Whether this means a Correa move to third base, or a move to the outfield for Bregman, no locker room issues will arise from any of this.

Congratulations, Alex Bregman, on achieving a lifelong goal. You have been nothing short of a class act, and a great ambassador of the university since the day you first stepped on campus. Thank you for the countless memories over the past three years, and the many more hopefully to come in the next few weeks at the College World Series.

In the same fashion that the Louisiana State University alma mater concludes; Alex Bregman, you will always be ‘Forever LSU’.
