There is a strong possibility that this contest will decide how the SEC is represented in the College Football Playoff.
The winner will have the inside track to the conference championship game in Atlanta, where they will likely be the favorite to take down the representative from the SEC East.
Should LSU win on Saturday, their path to the 2nd annual College Football Playoff will become much more clear.
Destiny will remain in the Tigers’ hands. All they will need to do is win out, which of course, is easier said then done. An LSU victory over the Crimson Tide gives the SEC a team with its national championship fate in its own hands.
Should Alabama win, the SEC — as well as the rest of the country — will be thrown into a little bit of chaos. The Crimson Tide would become a frontrunner to reach the College Football Playoff, but the SEC would no longer have an undefeated team in the conference.

The fact that Alabama reached the playoff last year with one loss proves that this is nothing for SEC fans to fret about, but it does mean that the conference loses control over its destiny.
It is difficult to imagine a one-loss SEC Champion being left out of the College Football Playoff, but given the love for the Big Ten and Big 12 this season, anything is possible.
An Alabama victory would bring further chaos to an already chaotic conference, as well as the rest of college football. An LSU win establishes what should be a clearcut No. 1 team in the country.
Regardless, Saturday will provide a highly anticipated contest with major national title implications.
