LSU Football: A Tiger Fan’s Christmas in July Wish List
Improved Quarterback Play
Inconsistent quarterback performance is the No. 1 complaint most LSU football fans and media pundits have in regards to the Les Miles era.
For every successful season led by JaMarcus Russell or Matt Flynn, there’s been an equally disappointing campaign headed up by Jordan Jefferson or Anthony Jennings.
It’s no secret that capable and consistent quarterback play is one of the key factors in a college football program’s success, and the Tigers have often struggled to field a reliable signal caller.
The 2016 season marks the first time LSU features a veteran starting quarterback since the 2013 season when Zach Mettenberger led a high-powered offensive attack in offensive coordinator Cam Cameron’s first season in Baton Rouge.

Brandon Harris returns as LSU’s starter under center this year, and expectations are high for the junior quarterback. If quarterbacks could be on the “hot seat,” then Harris would certainly be feeling the heat. It’s unlikely that Harris will be supplanted by backup quarterbacks Danny Etling or Justin McMillan because of performance, but the Tigers need Harris to take another step this season in terms of on-field execution.
Running back Leonard Fournette cannot shoulder LSU’s entire offensive load for the duration of a season (see LSU’s first three games last November), and it’s up to Harris and the passing game to help supplement the Tigers’ fierce running attack.
LSU football fans are cautiously optimistic about the performance of Harris in 2016, and they’re wishing for their junior signal caller to morph into a one of the SEC’s top quarterbacks.
If LSU’s quarterback play doesn’t improve tremendously, the Tigers’ chances of reaching the SEC Championship in December are slim.
