Odell Beckham Jr only hurt LSU football this week
By Zach Ragan
Former LSU football star Odell Beckham Jr has been in the news all week for his actions after the national championship game on Monday night in New Orleans.
It’s been quite a week for former LSU football wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
Beckham has been the subject of numerous headlines this week after watching LSU beat Clemson for the national championship on Monday night in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Immediately after the game, Beckham was seen on the field handing out wads of cash to players.
LSU first said the cash was fake, then later said they were investigating the situation.
But that’s not the only drama that Beckham managed to create on Monday night.
During LSU’s locker room celebration, a public safety officer attempted to shut down the Tigers’ usage of cigars.
That’s when Beckham stepped in and slapped the officer on the rear and then taunted him.
Video of the incident has made the rounds on social media.
An arrest warrant has now been issued for Beckham for simply battery.
The whole situation seems ridiculous. I’m not sure why the officer was in the locker room trying to shut down the cigar smoking. Yes, I know smoking indoors is illegal in New Orleans, but LSU just won the national championship. The world isn’t going to stop turning because a few cigars were lit.
On the other hand, Beckham’s actions are absurd too. There’s never a good reason to make contact with an officer. And it’s certainly not wise to taunt an officer.
Beckham’s actions on Monday night reflect poorly on LSU. And it’s shame that much of this week has been spent talking about what Beckham did, instead of talking about what LSU accomplished.
The relationship between Beckham and LSU is important. The dynamic wide receiver is an important ambassador for LSU football.
But he needs to understand how his actions can affect the program he dearly loves.
This week, LSU would’ve been better off if Beckham had watched the game from home.
