We are exactly one month away from the season starting and not only that, it is the first day of fall camp for the LSU Tigers. With a new head coach, and a lot of new faces on offense, there will be a lot to take in as camp gets underway.
Everyone knows Lane Kiffin is known for his offensive genius, and there are a handful of storylines that will be key as we see the new-look Tigers get going.
Let the Sam Leavitt show begin
After months of anticipation, Sam Leavitt will now finally suit up and take part in practicing with his teammates.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound gunslinger was considered to be the top portal target at quarterback after leading Arizona State to a Big 12 title and College Football Playoff berth in 2024. In two seasons in Tempe, he threw for more than 4,500 yards with 34 touchdowns and nine interceptions and added 749 rushing yards and 10 scores.
However, a foot injury ended his season prematurely in 2025 and caused him to miss spring ball. However, he has recovered and appears to have good chemistry with his teammates already, as he and several wide receivers went to Dallas to train during their off week before fall camp.
Who will be LSU's RB1 in 2026?
The biggest surprise of spring camp was that neither Harlem Berry or Caden Durham was the starting running back by the time it ended. In fact, it was Wisconsin transfer Dilin Jones.
Durham has been LSU’s bell cow over the past two seasons, rushing for 1,258 yards and nine touchdowns in 24 games. However, his production dipped because the previous regime favored Berry. That was partly due to the strong second half of 2025, when he rushed for 400 yards on 78 carries, averaged 5.1 yards per carry, and scored one touchdown.
Things can change, but as of now, Jones is your bellcow.
The battle at left guard is a key interior line story
The most overlooked position battle going into fall camp is at left guard.
Fifth-year senior Bo Bordelon has been the starter since the beginning of spring camp and has had a solid offseason. However, he will have to duke it out with Ole Miss transfer Devin Harper for the job.
The former Calvary Baptist standout was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2025 and was listed as one of the nation’s top 15 offensive tackles out of high school. A little bit of irony here as Harper was originally committed to LSU before flipping to Ole MIss.
Lane Kiffin will have multiple weapons in his passing game
One of the things to watch out for is who emerges in the passing game, as there are plenty of guys who could become regulars in the rotation.
As of right now, Jackson Harris and Winnie Watkins are two of the three starters at wide receiver, while Trey’dez Green holds down the tight end position, of course.
However, those aren’t the only pass catchers who could be utilized.
The next ones up would be Jayce Brown and Tre Brown, both nice pickups out of the transfer portal from Kansas State and Old Dominion, respectively. You also have Florida transfer Eugene “Tre” Wilson, who is one of the most dangerous weapons in the country when healthy.
Illinois transfer Malik Elzy, Troy transfer Roman Mothershed, along with freshmen receivers Braylon Allen, Corey Barber and Jabari Mack, could fight for playing time as well.
