The LSU Tigers put forth a valiant effort on Saturday afternoon in Norman, but ultimately fell short of an upset in a 17-13 loss. The Tigers led the 8th-ranked Sooners deep into the 4th quarter, but John Mateer hit Isaiah Satenga III for a 58-yard touchdown to seal the deal for Oklahoma. With the loss, LSU ends the regular season with a 7-5 record and a 3-5 mark in SEC play.
Latest Lane Kiffin update should have LSU fans as confident as ever
Now that LSU's regular season has wrapped up, Tiger fans are anxiously awaiting an update from Lane Kiffin. The Ole Miss head coach said he would make an announcement regarding his future on Saturday, and has yet to make his plans known.
LSU fans anxiously await a Lane Kiffin decision
At this point, Kiffin is deciding between staying at Ole Miss and leaving for LSU, as the Florida Gators have reportedly decided to pursue other candidates. Kiffin has been at the top of LSU hot boards for more than a month, and has LSU and Ole Miss fans waiting with bated breath.
The soap opera surrounding Kiffin's decision-making process has been chaotic. Kiffin met with Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter last week, who then announced that Kiffin would wait until after the Egg Bowl to make a decision. Ole Miss defeated Mississippi State 38-19 on Friday, and Kiffin said after the game that he had not made up his mind yet.
Kiffin led Ole Miss to its best-ever regular season, finishing with an 11-1 record and a shot at an SEC title as well as a National Championship. Even if Alabama beats Auburn in the Iron Bowl and Ole Miss misses out on the SEC Championship Game, the Rebels are still essentially a lock to qualify for the CFP. That adds another complex decision to the Lane Kiffin saga.
Bruce Feldman gave an update on Saturday morning that people close to Kiffin are "very confident" that Kiffin will be Baton Rouge bound. But as we've seen before with Kiffin, nothing can be known for sure until it happens. Buckle up.
