Now what for LSU football after the loss to Alabama? It wasn't just that the Tigers couldn't hang with the No. 4 Tide in Tuscaloosa, but countless headlines were made when interim head coach Frank Wilson had seen enough out of his offense.

Frank Wilson delivers LSU QB quote that leaves everyone guessing

Midway through the third quarter on Saturday night, Wilson ended up benching Garrett Nussmeier in a move that stunned a lot of people. Michael Van Buren took the field, but is he going to be the team's starter moving forward?

That's what everyone is wondering with Arkansas up next. After the loss, Wilson wouldn't commit to either player running the offense come Nov. 15. To make things worse for LSU, Booger McFarland ripped Nussmeier at halftime on Saturday night. Can anyone argue with him over what he had to say here?

Booger McFarland didn't hold back hyping up Ty Simpson and bringing down Garrett Nussmeier

"You're seeing a stark difference when one team has a quarterback in Ty Simpson and the other team has Garrett Nussmeier," McFarland said with passion. "There's the difference in the game."

At the time of those comments, Alabama looked like a completely different team on offense, outgaining the Tigers. 244 to 131. Nussmeier ended up throwing for only 121 yards before Wilson sent him to the bench and brought in Van Buren.

As we've said multiple times already here at DVV, no one expected this to happen to Nussmeier in such a big game. This guy went from a Heisman hopeful to someone who may have started his last game with the Tigers in what feels like a flash.

It has been a tumultuous season for LSU, which has of course featured the university parting ways with Brian Kelly and Scott Woodward. With three games left in the season, Wilson is now just trying to get this team over the finish line and leave the program in a good spot for whoever takes over the role.

Soon enough, LSU will get back on the practice field and while Wilson said Nussmeier handled his benching quite well, a lot of people don't want to see him start another game for the Tigers. It looks like McFarland is now included on that list.
