Earlier this week, it was reported that Florida sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway plans to enter the transfer portal. Lagway arrived in Gainesville as a 5-star prospect and the top dual-threat QB in the country for the 2024 recruiting class.

However, his first two years of college football have been a bit of a roller coaster. He's shown elite upside, but has also struggled mightily with consistency and decision-making. But still, the potential is there for Lagway to be a playmaker for a Power 4 team.

As Lagway explores his options in the portal, one industry expert expects LSU to be a big player in the pursuit of his services for the 2026 season.

Pete Nakos says LSU will be a big player in the pursuit of DJ Lagway

According to On3's Pete Nakos, LSU and Miami (FL) are expected to be the two biggest players in the market to land Lagway.

Lagway appeared in 12 games for the Gators as a true freshman last season, and took over as Florida's QB1 following a season-ending injury to Graham Mertz. Over two seasons in Gainesville, he's completed 62.0% of his passes for 4,179 yards and 28 touchdowns with 23 interceptions.

Lane Kiffin has a way of getting the best out of his quarterbacks, and has plenty of experience using the portal to find his signal-callers. Kiffin had great success with transfer QBs Jaxson Dart and Trinidad Chambliss over the last few seasons, so there's certainly a chance he looks into bringing Lagway to Baton Rouge.

Lagway's 2025 season was a volatile one, as he struggled mightily with consistency, turnovers, and decision-making. He infamously tossed a whopping five interceptions against LSU back in Week 5. The potential is certainly there, but Lagway has looked overwhelmed by SEC defenses throughout his collegiate career. If Kiffin and LSU are going to be heavily involved in his recruitment via the portal, it's important that they don't leave any stones unturned.
