The Tigers face sky high expectations this season as they turn the page on the Angel Reese era. Reese transferred to LSU and led the team to a storybook championship winning season in 2023 followed by a run to the Elite 8 in 2024. She was taken 7th overall in the WNBA draft by the Chicago Sky, selected as an All-Star and runner up for the Rookie of the Year award, and rattled off an astounding 26 double doubles in her injury shorted rookie season.
As legendary coach Kim Mulkey enters her fourth year at LSU, she brings a team loaded with talent in the locker room and on the coach's bench, hiring program legend and Hall of Famer Seimone Augustus as an assistant coach. After deferring to Reese's seasoned leadership for the past two seasons, former SEC freshman of the year Flau'jae Johnson will assume the role of team leader. Johnson started in 34 games last season, and her double double in the tight Sweet 16 matchup against UCLA willed the Tigers to victory. Johnson and teammate Aneesah Morrow were voted Co-SEC Players of the Year in Pre-Season SEC Media Honors as well.
