This transfer portal cycle, the LSU Tigers won't be denied as they're seemingly landing whichever player they choose to target. On Tuesday, the Tigers landed their second wide receiver in Florida States' Destyn Hill but, the biggest addition on Tuesday is far and away the addition of Oklahoma Wide Receiver Nic Anderson.
In 2023, Anderson caught 38 passes for 798 yards and ten touchdowns but, missed the entire 2024 season with a serious leg injury. The injury was disappointing as Anderson seemed poised for a massive season in his second year in the offense.
Everyone still believes in Nic Anderson's ability as On3's Industry Transfer Portal Rankings ranked him as the 10th best player in the Transfer Portal and the 5th best wide receiver in the portal. In landing Barion Brown and Nic Anderson, LSU adds the 5th and 6th best wide receivers in this transfer class to an offense that already has a ton of talent returning.
Garrett Nussmeier now has an embarrassment of riches at his disposal in the passing game with Aaron Anderson, Nic Anderson, Barion Brown, Chris Hilton Jr, Zavion Thomas, Kyle Parker, Javen Nicholas, Jelani Watkins, Destyn Hill, Kylan Billiot, Trey'Dez Green, Bauer Sharp, and Caden Durham.
The addition of Nic Anderson stands out when you look at the Tigers weapons as he's far and away the tallest wide receiver on the team. The Tigers can use Anderson as the big bodied receiver on the outside allowing Aaron Anderson and Barion Brown to alternate in the slot while the other also plays on the line of scrimmage.
LSU struggled a ton this year at converting red zone trips into touchdowns which cost this team several games. The Tigers now add a wide receiver that can go up and and catch 50/50 balls when the other receivers can't get separation.
In most bigger receivers the concern is route running as they typically just run go routes, curls, and fades but, in Anderson you see a variety of routes which makes the offense much tougher to guard. After the catch, Anderson is tough to bring down while he has a great knack for finding the soft spots in zone coverage.
LSU's Wide Receiver Core now has three wide receivers that would be the top wide receiver on a Playoff contender, good luck covering the Tigers in 2025.
