While the US Women's National Basketball team will likely defend their Gold Medal there was a lot of heat around the players selected. Everyone wanted to see Caitlin Clark on the roster as she's arguably the most popular player in the sport while Angel Reese is right alongside her. The National Team went with a veteran squad which is understandable and likely best for Reese and Clark given how quick the turnaround from College to the WNBA season is.

However, if the National Team was looking to make a massive splash in a different way both Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese both should have been on the Women's three on three team.

The United States sent former LSU guard Hailey Van Lith, Rhyne Howard, Dearica Hamby, and Cierra Burdick as the three on three team for this Olympics. The group went 4-3 in Pool Play before beating China in the Play-in. The United States then lost to Spain in the Quarterfinals failing to defend its Gold Medal.

This isn't a knock on the players the United States but, Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark both should have played on the team. The FIBA rules requiring players participate in three on three events is clearly wrong as it kept two of the games biggest stars out of the game.

When the WNBA All-Stars faced team USA all of the buzz was around watching Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese on the same team. Imagine if we got to watch the duo that's blown up the game play on the same team for at least seven games. The United States likely would have faired much better if we had two of the games brightest stars on the court together.

Angel Reese vs Caitlin Clark debate will take the WNBA to new heights

After watching Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark battling it out over the past two seasons the intrigue in Women's College Basketball and the WNBA has skyrocketed. The WNBA is seeing incredible viewership spikes and its only the pairs rookie years. Down the stretch we'll see both players push hard for the Rookie of the Year Award which is one of the best things for the sports.
