Five bold predictions for the LSU Football team against Nicholls State
When the LSU Football team takes on Nicholls State tonight, the game won't be one of the best games of the weekend but, it'll be an opportunity for LSU to smooth out some of their bumps. It's also a massive opportunity to get some game film on some of LSU's younger players this way the staff can continue to get the underclassmen ready for SEC action. In this game, we predict that the LSU Football team will achieve these five bold predictions.
Zavion Thomas returns a kick for a touchdown
While Zavion Thomas has all of the talent in the world, predicting a special teams touchdown is still a bold call. Thomas almost got onto the board with his first of the season on Sunday Night against USC if not for a Trojan making a shoestring tackle because Thomas had a clear path to the endzone. Tiger Stadium will be electric on its 100th Anniversary and what better way than having a kick returned for a score?
Ju'Juan Johnson scores a touchdown in his first game at running back
This week with the torn ACL injury to John Emery Jr, true freshman defensive back Ju'Juan Johnson made the move to running back to give LSU a fourth body in the room. For those unfamiliar with Johnson, he was an electric quarterback at Lafayette Christian Academy. Given Johnson's lack of experience at running back, we'll likely see a ton of Johnson as he gets his feet wet at running back. Tigers fans will quickly fall in love with Johnson at running back as he's electric with the football in his hands.
Collin Hurley looks the best of the three backups
This summer, it was heavily expected that either Rickie Collins or AJ Swann would win out in the battle to be Garrett Nussmeier's backup quarterback. This past weekend, on LSU's official depth chart the backup job was one of the "or's" on the depth chart. Both should see extensive playing time this game but, so will true freshman Collin Hurley. During the Summer, Hurley looked impressive and threw his name into the running for the backup job. Everyone is quick to pencil Bryce Underwood in as the next starter but, Hurley is another quarterback that Joe Sloan loved as a recruit.
LSU scores twice...defensively
In Nicholls State, the LSU Football team faces a team that has a very poor offense and shouldn't be able to move the ball much. Given the pressure that LSU will be able to apply onto Nicholls' quarterback Pat McQuaide, he'll certainly make a mistake or two. Given how dominant Sai'vion Jones looked last week we're predicting he'll record a strip sack. The Tigers were also impressive in deflecting passes up into the air last week which should give the Tigers additional chances to make a big play.
Jardin Gilbert gets Wally Pipped
Those who aren't familiar with baseball may not know the phrase but, Wally Pipp was the first baseman for the Yankees but, when he had a headache he was given the day off in favor of young Lou Gehrig being told don't worry we'll try Gehrig and get you back in there tomorrow, Pipp never played again as Gehrig would go on to start 2,130 games in a row.
The LSU Football team will be without Jardin Gilbert for the first half on Saturday as part of his suspension for his targeting foul late in the fourth quarter. In his place, Kylin Jackson and DaShawn Spears will split time at safety. The younger duo were arguably the two most impressive players in camp and Gilbert allowing them a crack at the starting job may end with a demotion to the second unit full time.
