The LSU Baseball off-season is off to a hectic start as the Tigers have lost some key transfers and recruiting director Terry Rooney. The Tigers have already started rebuilding the roster for next season as they've brought in two massive transfers closing pitcher Chandler Dorsey and Catcher Luis Hernandez.

In regionals, LSU Baseball fans got very familiar with the Wofford Terriers as LSU faced Wofford twice. Jay Johnson used the matchups to scout Wofford as he now brings in starting pitcher Zac Cowan.

The most impactful add for the LSU Baseball team this offseason so far is landing right handed starter. Zac Cowan. This season, Cowan was the ace of Wofford's staff with a 10-2 record pitching 110 innings with a 3.35 ERA. Upon entering the Transfer Portal Cowan immediatley became a top target for the Nation's best teams before LSU landed a commitment.

The additions of Cowan is massive as LSU Baseball will likely lose some of it's best pitchers to the MLB Draft. Luke Holman and Gage Jump are in all likelihood going to be early draft picks while Thatcher Hurd and Griffin Herring will have decisions to make.

At the time this post was orginally posted, D1 Baseball reported that Wofford starter Cam Wicker also committed to LSU however, it has since been retracted. LSU fans will remember Wicker as the Tigers faced Cam Wicker in their second matchup scoring three earned runs off of Wicker across four innings. As a true freshman, Wicker pitched 75 2/3 innings with a 4.28 ERA in ten starts. The way Jay Johnson is recruiting right now it would not be a shock to see LSU land Wicker if interest is there.

Jay Johnson has no plans of a rebuilding year

Plenty of programs around the country would likely allow some of their younger players a season to develop but, thhat's not how LSU Baseball or Jay Johnson operate. Thus far LSU has nabbed four of the Nation's top transfers and there's no sign of slowing down. If the LSU Baseball team can continue to land high impact players this team will be a National title contender with the pieces returning.
