We've all been waiting for Matt McMahon to reel in his first commitment in the 2025 recruiting cycle. The Tigers were seemingly knocking on the door all summer being named as a finalist for several top 100 recruits but, the Tigers never get the commitment in the Summer.

The LSU Basketball team has landed its first commitment in this recruiting cycle from Power Forward Matt Gilhool.

Gilhool is ranked by On3 as the 62nd best player in the class, the 15th ranked Power Forward, and the best player out of Pennsylvania. The Tigers closed this recruitment out this weekend as they hosted Gilhool on an official visit this weekend.

Heading into his visit to Baton Rouge this past weekend, it seemed like LSU Basketball was on the outside looking in for Matt Gilhool compared to the team's closer to home in Pennsylvania and some of the bigger schools who offered him a scholarship. The sentiment quickly started to shift as the Power Forward scheduled his commitment date so close to his official visit.

The success this weekend bodes well for the rest of the month for LSU Basketball as the Tigers' have a jam packed month of recruiting visits. The Tigers won't host any recruits on campus this weekend but, three of LSU's top targets Mazi Mosley, Jalen Reece, and Kayden Edwards will be on campus and McMahon can pitch them on playing with Gilhool.

The Scouting report on Matt Gilhool

The Pennsylvania native is 6 foot 10 inches tall and weighs 205 pounds a number the strength and conditioning staff will likely try to build up before he plays in his first game. He's left handed and there is a ton to like about his game and how it'd fit the current game. Gilhool can shoot the three and is effective in the paint on both ends of the court while he's shown some ability when he needs to put the ball on the floor.
