LSU Football gets its full roster onto campus for Summer Workouts
While many are enjoying their Memorial Day, the LSU Football program is getting ready for its summer workouts. This means a busy travel weekend for the LSU Football team and staff as the team heads back to Baton Rouge while some newcomers are coming.
The team will start it's Summer Workouts on Tuesday allowing the staff to see how the incoming players and the returnees are at in a strength and conditioning stand point. While there's excitement about getting the returnees back on campus the most buzz will be for the players joining the team for the first time.
The incoming Spring Transfers will be one of the more important storylines as both play the position that LSU needs help at. Defensive Tackles Jay'Viar Suggs and Gio Paez both joined the Tigers this spring and both will be in a position to start this year. It's especially important getting Jay'Viar Suggs onto campus as he's taking a massive step up in terms of competition and the reps he gets this summer will be important in his development as he faces maybe the Nation's best offensive line.
Also joining the team this weekend are the 13 incoming freshmen who didn't enroll at LSU early. The biggest name to watch will be five-star defensive tackle Dominick McKinley as the Tigers desperately need defensive tackle talent and McKinley with a strong summer could play his way into a starting role.
On the offensive side of the football, Caden Durham will be the biggest name to watch this summer as with Trey Holly's legal issues Durham should see significant playing time this season. Trey'Dez Green will be an exciting name to see this summer as well as the tight end has the talent to be a massive receiving threat down the line.
Building a College Football Playoff Contender
The summer is the area where a true college football contender will be built for the LSU Football team. Bo Davis will have one of the most important jobs as he'll have little time to get Jay'Viar Suggs, Gio Paez, and Dominick McKinley ready to play game one against USC. The returnees on defense will continue to build their familiarity with Blake Baker's defense as the group looks to take a complete 180 after an awful season in 2023. This LSU football team has plenty to get fans excited and with a solid summer this team may be ready to return to the College Football Playoff.
