The LSU Football team is still hot on the recruiting trail with the 3rd ranked recruiting class in the country. This is before the Tigers are even able to host recruits as they'll play their first home game this weekend. We'll see LSU ramp up their recruiting efforts in the next few weeks as the schedule begins to get tougher but, there's some positive news.

The Tigers have added another massive piece to their recruiting haul landing a commitment from Georgia Native Walter Mathis Jr.

As a Junior, Mathis was impressive at Calvary Day School totaling 50 tackles, 22 for a loss, and six sacks.

The Georgia native is clearly a recruit that the services are too low on as he's a three-star recruit however, he has offers from LSU, Oregon, Miami, Alabama, Clemson, and Georgia among his 30 scholarship offers. On3's industry recruiting rankings have Mathis as the 456th-best player in the class and the 42nd-ranked defensive tackle.

This is another massive commitment for defensive tackle's coach Bo Davis as he's loading up in this class. We saw LSU do everything they could to land defensive tackles in the Spring transfer window and now we'll see an infusion of youth on the defensive line next season.

Davis has landed two four-stars in Zion Williams and Brandon Brown and a pair of three stars in Dilan Battle and Walter Mathis Jr. When LSU first landed Williams and Brown they were both three-star recruits and quickly were reevaluated. By the end of the season, it's more likely than not that all four end up as four-stars.

Which side of the football in this recruiting class has more excitement?

When you look at this recruiting class as a whole, it's hard not to be excited about the next wave of talent for LSU. If you had to pick which side of the football is more exciting however, that would be difficult. The offense has the Nation's top quarterback, running back, and guard while the class has other exciting pieces like Derek Meadows, JT Lindsey, and the three other commits on the offensive line.

The defense however, after all of the defensive struggles as of late has to be the most exciting group to get onto campus. At cornerback, DJ Pickett, Kade Phillips, and Aidan Anding are all good enough that they could start at cornerback next season. Bo Davis and Kevin Peoples have brought in some really exciting pieces on the defensive line that could be rotational pieces next year. Blake Baker has three linebackers that'll compete for playing time if Greg Penn III and Harold Perkins Jr depart after this season.
