LSU Football looking like the leader for Elite 5-Star Defensive Back
After what may have been the biggest recruiting weekend of the year the news continues to be overly positive for the LSU Football program. The Tigers have received two crystal ball predictions for four-star defenders while they made strong impressions on five-stars like Jaime Ffrench and Kaliq Lockett. The biggest news yet may refer to one of the Nation's best defensive backs whom LSU may be in the drivers seat for.
The LSU Tigers hosted five-star defensive back DJ Pickett who ranks as the Nation's top cornerback or the Nation's best safety depending upon which recruiting site you use. When Pickett initially released his finalists for his commitment LSU wasn't among the finalists. The Tigers found their way into Pickett's finalists when they brought back Corey Raymond for a second stint as defensive backs coach.
While coaching the LSU defensive backs, LSU had seven first team All-Americans in the secondary with 14 NFL Draft picks with Jamal Adams, Derek Stingley Jr, Tredavious White, and Eric Reid going in the first round.
Raymond further impressed Pickett by bringing Patrick Peterson in for the weekend with the Pickett family having a relationship with the LSU great. The draft resume of Corey Raymond speaks for itself and is a massive reason why LSU may be the team to beat according to On3's Steve Wiltfong:
If the LSU Football program lands a commitment from DJ Pickett his star power will help the LSU's second ranked recruiting class while also attracting other talent to play alongside him. The biggest name that Pickett could help the Tigers with is fellow Florida native Bryce Fitzgerald who is one of the top safeties in the class and has built a relationship with Pickett.
LSU Football: Here comes the resurgence of DBU
While Corey Raymond was the Tigers secondary coach, LSU reached it's peak of developing and recruiting elite talents in the secondary. It seems that it's no coincidence that once Raymond left their was a slip at the position. The Tigers will now look to recover from their awful defensive season in 2023 and the development of defensive backs will play a massive part in the turn around. The Tigers already have a commitment from in-state recruit Jaboree Antoine and hybrid LB/S Charles Ross as Raymond looks to recruit the next class of elite LSU defensive backs.
